SUPERIOR, WI — The Superior City Council adopted a city-wide ban on conversion therapy.
The council passed the ban unanimously Tuesday night.
The controversial practice allows medical experts to attempt to change someone’s sexual orientation or gender identity.
People in support of the ban say conversion therapy doesn’t work and is damaging to children and teens.
Critics of the ban say it could restrict parental rights.
The ban does not apply to religious counseling.
Douglas County and the state as a whole do not have a ban on conversion therapy.
