Lawmakers to take up highway safety bill

MADISON, WI (WKOW)– Wisconsin lawmakers are scheduled to discuss road safety Thursday.

A public hearing was scheduled for Assembly Bill 262 at 10:00 a.m. at the State Capitol.

If the bill becomes law, you could get a ticket for failing to yield to workers in a highway work zone. The bill also calls for a required 30 minute lesson in drivers’ ed courses on work zone safety.

First responders are expected to testify at the public hearing in hopes of modifying the bill to include safety measures for them. Right now the verbiage is specifically geared to work zones.
