Fall colors continue to turn across the Northland

DULUTH, MN– As we head into the final weekend of Summer, the leaves continue to change, and some portions of the Northland are seeing quite a bit of color.

LAST WEEK: Parts of the Keweenaw Peninsula as well Gogebic and Ontonagon counties were seeing around 10 percent and 30 percent with Gogebic County seeing between 15 percent and 30 percent. Most areas in northern Minnesota were seeing between 10 percent and 25 percent color. Most of St. Louis County, as well as the western parts of Lake County, were seeing 0 percent to 10 percent color with Duluth seeing anywhere between 10 percent and 25 percent color. In Wisconsin, the Hayward area was at 20 percent color as of Wednesday. The rest of northern Wisconsin was seeing around 10 percent color.

U.P.: The western portions of the U.P. are seeing anywhere from 25 percent to 50 percent color. Gogebic County is seeing 40 percent to 50 percent color.

MINNESOTA: Most of northern Minnesota is seeing anywhere from 25 percent to 50 percent color. A few areas are still only at 10 percent to 25 percent color which includes International Falls, Grand Marais and Two Harbors. Areas around Silver Bay, Floodwood, northern Aitkin, southwestern Itasca, and northern Cass Counties are already seeing 50 percent to 75 percent color. The Brainerd area and southern portions of Cass county are seeing 10 percent color or less.

WISCONSIN: The best place to see fall colors in Wisconsin would be in and near the Hurley area, where 65 percent color is being reported and is forecasted to reach a peak during the final week of September. 20 percent to 35 percent color is being reported in Douglas and Washburn counties, as well as the Hayward, Mercer, Bayfield and Iron River areas. Ashland is seeing around 20 percent.
