CLOQUET, MN UPDATE 4 P.M.– Cloquet Police have arrested a 28-year-old Minneapolis man after police say another man was shot in the head on the Fond du Lac Reservation Friday morning.

Police identified the suspect as Shelby Gene Boswell. Charges against him are pending, but he has been convicted of prior assault felonies.

Authorities say Boswell allegedly walked into the Fond du Lac Head Start building around 10 a.m. and fired one shot during a funeral ceremony in the building’s gymnasium.

Police say a 45-year-old man was injured and taken to a Duluth hospital. They have not identified the victim, but police added that his injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

Interim Police Chief Derek Randall said funeral-goers apprehended Boswell until authorities arrived.

Randall said they believe Boswell knew the victim, but they are unclear on what the exact motive for the shooting might have been.

The incident led to the lockdown of the nearby high school and head start building. Randall said school was not in session at the high school, but some students were on campus for another event. He added that no students were in the Head Start building at the time of the shooting.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating.

Randall said they believe the shooting was an isolated incident, and the public is not in danger.
