Longtime employee identified as victim in fatal crash at Minorca Mine

VIRGINIA, MN – The man killed this week in a mine service vehicle crash in Virginia has been identified as 51-year-old Ken Mattson of Gilbert, according to the Mesabi Daily News.

The Virginia Fire Department responded around 9:40 Tuesday morning to the crash at the Minorca Mine.

Crews discovered a mine service vehicle had crashed on a haul road on mine property.

Mattson, a longtime employee of Minorca Mine, was the only one involved in the crash, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
